Nowadays books are very expensive and many students do not have an opportunity to buy then. In the same time the textbooks are essential, because all educational material contains in them. The prices for books increase every year. Some students even stop to attend the classes because of lack of the costs on the books. According to the statistics the students spend approximately $ 900 during their studying in the university on the books. In the same time, more than half of the students can not buy all books they need. As a result, they fail the exams and tests and do not graduate the educational institution.
It is really a huge problem not only for the university students, but also for the government, because the educational level of the population plays huge role for the United States. Because of this reason the government has developed several programs with the aim to reduce the prices of the university textbooks. There appeared several special laws which refer to this problem. In general, during last year 40 bills were presented in the 15 states. Other states also intend to participate in these projects with the aim to make the textbooks more affordable for the students.
Besides, many states have their own programs devoted to this problem. For example, the government of the Illinois and New Jersey provide the special rented programs for the students. The states of Maryland and New York decided to reduce the prices on the books with the help of local sales tax. In the state of Virginia it is forbidden for the universities and colleges to provide the interests for the publishers.
The majority of the laws concerning the prices on the textbooks refer to the publishers, not to the universities, because the publishers form the price. In spite of the attempts of the government, it is quite complicated task to find the permanent solution of the problem of expensive book, so there is much work to do in the future.
